Dr Neil Oastler

Dr Neil Oastler

I am married and live in South West Oxfordshire with my wife Elizabeth, who also works for the NHS, as an Advanced Care Practitioner in Emergency Medicine, and our Labrador dog. Our twin children have long since flown the nest, neither of which have wisely chosen to work in healthcare!

I have recently retired as dentist, Specialist Oral Surgeon, having worked almost exclusively within the NHS for nearly 38 years, the last 26 of which have been in Oxfordshireworking for the Community Dental Service.

Much of my work has been undertaking the dental care of adult and paediatric special care patients under sedation (predominately inhalational sedation) and day case general anaesthesia.

I have been an ADA council member since 2010.  Additionally, within dentistry I have been a previous Council Member of BAOS for 6 years 2012-2018, the Chair of the Thames Valley Managed Clinical Network (Oral Surgery) 2014 – present, and the Minutes and Meeting Secretary for Oxfordshire Local Dental Committeen since 2004.

It is important that ADA maintains a strong voice promoting the provision of safe and effective sedation and general anaesthesia in “high street” dental practice and within our hospitals.  The phobic and special care patient be they adult or child, need advocates otherwise this vulnerable cohort won’t be able to access the services they need, where they need them, essential to maintain their long-term oral health
